Honest Vandermoon Kitchen Review After 80,000 km
f you're searching for an honest Vandermoon review, you've probably already seen the beautiful photos. Their campervan interiors definitely stand out.
But photos only tell part of the story.
The real question is:
How does a Vandermoon kitchen hold up after years of real travel?
I've been living and travelling in my campervan with my family for thousands of kilometers across Europe. From the freezing temperatures of Northern Finland to hot Mediterranean summers, our van isn't a weekend project—it's used exactly the way a camper should be.
After more than 80,000 km, here's my honest experience.
Why I chose Vandermoon
When I started building my campervan, I spent months researching different furniture options.
Like most people, I looked at everything—from DIY plywood builds to custom-made interiors and complete modular systems. I watched countless videos, read reviews, and tried to imagine what it would actually be like to live with each option, not just admire it in photos.
One thing became clear quite quickly.
I wasn't looking for the cheapest solution.
I was building a van that my family and I planned to use for years, so I wanted furniture that felt like real furniture—not lightweight camping cabinets that start rattling after a few trips or start showing their age after one season.
The first thing that caught my attention about Vandermoon was the design. It looked clean, modern and timeless. It had that Scandinavian feel that made the interior look more like a small apartment than a traditional campervan.
But I wasn't buying it because it looked good.
Beautiful furniture is easy to photograph. Living with it every single day is a completely different story.
I knew our van would be used properly. Long road trips, rough roads, changing climates, plenty of cooking, constant opening and closing of drawers, and a six-year-old who definitely doesn't treat cabinets gently.
That's why durability mattered much more to me than aesthetics.
Living with it every day
This isn't a review based on a weekend getaway.
Our kitchen has been used almost every single day.
We've cooked breakfast before sunrise in Norway, made dinner on remote beaches in Sardinia, and prepared meals while parked in snowstorms north of the Arctic Circle.
That kind of travel quickly exposes weak spots.
Doors start squeaking.
Drawers loosen.
Locks fail.
Wood swells.
Fortunately, none of those became real issues for us.
Everything still closes properly, the hinges feel solid, and the kitchen still looks surprisingly fresh considering how much we've used it.
Build quality
This is probably what impressed me the most.
The cabinets feel sturdy without making the van unnecessarily heavy.
The fit and finish are excellent, and you can tell that a lot of thought went into the details.
The soft-close hardware still works smoothly, and nothing feels "cheap" when you use it every day.
Storage
One thing I underestimated when building my van was how important storage becomes once you're actually living in it.
Every centimeter matters.
The layout of the Vandermoon kitchen makes it surprisingly easy to organize everyday items, and after a while everything naturally finds its place.
That may sound like a small detail, but on long trips it makes daily life noticeably less stressful.
The newest version
I recently upgraded to the latest generation of the Vandermoon kitchen.
It's not a complete redesign, but rather a collection of thoughtful improvements that make everyday cooking even more enjoyable.
The biggest improvement for me is the additional workspace.
Extra countertop space is something every van owner appreciates, and it's one of those small upgrades that makes a noticeable difference every single day.
It's a perfect example of improving something that was already good instead of changing it just for the sake of change.
Is it perfect?
No product is.
If you're looking for the absolute cheapest campervan kitchen, Vandermoon probably isn't it.
There are less expensive DIY alternatives.
But after using it for tens of thousands of kilometers, I personally understand where the money goes.
For me, reliability, thoughtful design and quality materials have been worth the investment.
When you spend weeks or months living inside your van, the furniture becomes part of your everyday life—not just part of the build.
Would I buy it again?
Yes.
Without hesitation.
That's probably the strongest recommendation I can give.
After living with it through every season, I would still choose the same brand today.
And that's not because it's perfect.
It's because it has consistently done exactly what I expected it to do.
Final thoughts
There are plenty of beautiful campervan kitchens on Instagram.
Far fewer still look and perform just as well after years of real travel.
For me, that's where Vandermoon truly stands out.
